As part of my Master's in Art Education I spent some of my summer learning Adobe InDesign, reading, writing, and editing (with LOTS of help!) the English version of the exhibition catalogue is available to purchase on blurb.ca. There is an online preview as well to give you a taste of what's inside and the texts. Click on the link above, or the icon, to open the book. Click on the arrows for the full page version. I decided to publish a small hardcover trade book for the first time and I am very pleased with the size and feel of the pages.
It felt like a steep hill to climb, when all I wanted to do was move on from the exhibition, but it was a successful exercise in reflection. The catalogue, or my kind professor rather, pushed me to extend my art practice into writing and deepen my scientific and historical understanding of the colour blue.

Opening night, something special happened at about 7 pm and the colour of the sky filled the windows with a deep blue and for that the moment the outside created an ephemeral harmony with the artworks.
If you came, thank you, and if you couldn't the slideshow is the next best thing. It was my first solo show in Montreal, but it didn't happen all alone. It was thanks to my husband, my son, the Department of Art Education at Concordia University, Dr. Kathleen Vaughan, Dr. Lorrie Blair, all my colleagues, Emma Hoch, and of course, the entire team at CCGV for their translation, installation, and mediation.

Last year I participated in 'The Right to the City' initiative with Dr. Kathleen Vaughan in the Art Education Master's program at Concordia University.  During my semester I volunteered at The Open Door and met John Tessier, who was at that time the only intervention worker there.  John shared his story with me and together we created this Oral History.  He told me about The Open Door, the community and about his hopes and fears for the future. Now, a year later, The Open Door just moved to a new, and renovated location in Montreal.  You can find more information here if you'd like to donate your time, warm winter clothes or your dollars.

​The Open Door is Montreal’s only wet shelter. Here, you will not be turned away even if you are drunk or high. Since 1988, it has been providing hot meals, vital services and a place to sleep during the day to Montreal’s most vulnerable. 
St. Stephen’s Anglican church, has been sold, and The Open Door must find a new home by December 31st, 2017.

L’Intervenant: John Tessier
La Porte Ouverte, ayant élu domicile à l’église anglicane Saint-Stephen, est le seul centre pour sans-abri à Montréal qui accueille les personnes intoxiquées. Depuis 1988, il offre des repas chauds, des services essentiels et un endroit où dormir pendant la journée aux personnes les plus vulnérables de Montréal. L'église anglicane ayant été vendue, La Porte Ouverte doit trouver un nouveau toit d'ici le 31 décembre 2017.
